Have used on both plastic and iron pipe to great effect. Water would not shut off 100 percent but this worked perfectly despite water in pipe.

I've made numerous connections from black pipe to black fitting as well as to brass fittings. Works great. You'll be wiping it off if you put too much on. If you do, don't worry. Just buy more later.
