About Motor Start Capacitors
As you probably already know, electrical start capacitors are important in pumps, HVAC-R applications, and more. Their role is to alter the current. This creates a rotating magnetic field within single-phase induction motors. They are designed to increase motor starting torque which allows a motor to cycle on/off quickly, and then it hands the work off to the run capacitor. When shopping for a capacitor, note that MFD is an abbreviation for Microfarad (a millionth of a Farad), which measures the capacitor's capacity.
